Promocean, as part of the Li & Fung Group, is commited to sustainable development aligned with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Responsible management of our environmental footprint is crucial. We have implemented a plan for carbon reduction within our operations, including reducing energy consumption, enhancing efficiency, transitioning to renewable energy sources, and fostering employee awareness.
In our supply chain, we actively engage in decarbonization efforts by enhancing data transparency, developing carbon reduction programs, and establishing supplier scorecards. Approximately one-third of our purchasing volume comes from key vendors which are preparing to commit to SBTi targets. Our procurement team prioritizes the use of factories that use renewable energy. Furthermore, Promocean is the final phase of implementing a LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) tool to measure and report of Scope 3 GHCG emission.
Water conservation is a top priority. We are committed to reducing freshwater consumption, increasing water reuse within production units, and improving wastewater quality across the supply chain. Progress is evident in meeting our internal water reduction targets, and collaborative efforts with suppliers, especially in water-intensive tiers like laundry and fabric mills are underway. DETOX program is in place with 100% of our vendors in Bangladesh to avoid the release of harmful chemicals from wet processing mills in water. We ensure that our products comply with all relevant legal standards, paying particular attention to their chemical content and release.
Promocean promotes the use of sustainable raw materials, collaborating with supply chain partners to identify alternatives. Examples include replacing plastic packaging with FSC-certified cardboard, eliminating simple use plastic or using recyclable solutions, using paper tapes instead of plastic, and adopting organic cotton and RPET fabric to reduce CO2 emissions and water consumption.
Since 2020, we have partnered with the Lindt Group to transition all of their tin box packaging from polybags to silk paper for goods sent to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and their retail shops worldwide.
The collaboration is successfully eliminated over one million polybags in the last four years, resulting in substantial reduction of 9.3 tons of plastic, 14.6 tons of CO2 emissions, and a water saving of 1,940m3.
Our team collaborated with Lacoste to enhance the eco-friendliness of their shopping bags that are utilized globally.
Starting in 2020, we eliminated completely the use of poly-cotton handles and plastic lamination to ensure that the bags can be fully recycled. This key element in the promotion of their brand image is now manufactured using FSC kraft paper made of 40% recycled paper with paper cord handles and printed with organic ink.
In 2022, thanks to these measures, our CO₂e emissions were reduced by 210 tons, and we were able to save 10,296 m³ of water.
In 2021, A.P.C. has decided to no longer utilize single-use kraft bags and pouches in their stores. In 2019, before introducing their new packaging that is both recycled and recyclable, A.P.C. had already disbursed a total of 172,850 bags and paper pouches.
Promocean teamed up with A.P.C. to develop a novel bag that is constructed using RPET as opposed to conventional polyester. The choice to use this material was instrumental in preventing the release of 28.3 tons of CO₂e into the environment and preserving 9,563 m³ of precious water.
All offices of Promocean are FSC certified, and we have increased our purchase volume of full chain of custody certified items by 28% from 2021 to 2022.
Though not all of our products bear the FSC brand, we have decided to exclusively purchase FSC certified paper and board for the manufacturing of our packaging items. Initially, this initiative was implemented for products that were headed to Asian and European markets, and in 2023, out of the total 1,685 tons of paper and board that we purchased, 98.5% was FSC certified.
Our next goal is to extend this best practice to the products that are shipped to the USA.
